Who needs an operator card - are there renewals?
The operator of any motorized pleasure craft in Canada must carry an operator card as proof of competency. The card is valid for your lifetime and there are no annual renewal fees.
How much does it Cost and When?
The total cost of the pleasure craft operator card is prepaid $39.95 or online credit card $29.95 plus GST. Includes unlimited use our affiliate's interactive learning center, the Canadian Coast Guard Online test and delivery of your P.C.O.C. Via mail.
Who can take the test - can I study?
The Online test is designed for those 12 years old and over but may be taken by children as young as 8 years old. Our affiliate's on-line study guide covers all of the information needed to answer the test questions.
What is a proctor - Can I practice the test?
A proctor is someone not related who will agree to verify the identity of the person who is taking the test. The proctor can be anyone who is of legal age in Province of residence. You may use the Online practice test as often as you wish. It is a great interactive learning tool.
How long is the test - how many questions?
The On-Line test is timed for 45 minutes. Most people, on average, complete it in less than 30 minutes. The test has 36 multiple choice questions of which you must answer at least 27 correctly (75%) to achieve a passing grade.
How do I do it and When do I get my P.C.O.C.?
When you are ready to take your test and your proctor is present simply go to the test page provided in your e-mail, enter the password that your proctor received via e-mail and your test will begin. Upon achieving a passing grade, your pleasure craft operator card will be delivered by mail directly to you in a few weeks.
When do I need the operator card?
All operators of motorized water craft born after April 1, 1983 - NOW! -All operators of craft under 4 m, including personal water craft by September 15, 2002- All operators by September 15, 2009 but are RESTRICTED BOATERS
What is a RESTRICTED BOATER?
Anyone born before April 1, 1983 and waiting until 2009 to get their operator card, cannot operate any motorized boat under 4.0 meters after Sept. 15, 2002.
